💚 Today is a moment for reflection.
👩✈️ Our colleague Maxine de Vries would have been celebrating her birthday today. Sadly, Maxine passed away in February – a great loss we are still struggling to come to terms with. She was a passionate environmentalist and aviator, and was the first Dutch woman to fly an electric aircraft.
🛫 Flying has always been magical: it connects people, cultures, and economies. But currently, it’s also contributing to climate change at an accelerating pace. If we want aviation to thrive within environmental limits, we must collectively shape a new era for our industry.
🍃 Maxine embodied the energy we need to transform air travel so that it can flourish in harmony with nature. In addition to flying electric aircraft, we first met her as she was living in an electric campervan and she went on to purchase land in Portugal where she was beginning a life with her young family, planting trees and restoring nature.
🗣️ She was also instrumental in setting up the movement “Call Aviation to Action”, which launched last week: read the Guardian article featuring quotes from Safe Landing members.
🧑✈️ They have a very thoughtful and inspirational message, and have already gathered more than 350 signatures from aviation professionals. Let’s help them get to 400 by the end of the week!
✅ Safe Landing stand proudly in support of “Call Aviation to Action” and look forward to seeing where they go next and collaborating together on future initiatives where we can.
🌤️ United by our love for the sector and all the benefits it offers to the global community, we truly believe there can be bright skies on the horizon.
