On 10th Feb 2026, in the UK Parliament, Safe Landing attended a roundtable with Ruth Cadbury MP, convened by the ‘Policy Liaison Group on ESG’ on aviation, exploring the challenge of decarbonising the sector, from demand, infrastructure and technology, to economics, governance and policy alignment.
Many thanks to Ruth Cadbury MP and Pierre Shepherd for chairing the session, and to the speakers Tim Johnson (Aviation Environment Federation), Alex Chapman (New Economics Foundation), and Professor Brian Scott-Quinn for providing the thoughtful perspectives that framed the session. Their insights sparked a genuinely dynamic discussion, with constructive challenge and debate across environmental, economic and social considerations.
Our interventions focused on:
- Our proposal for a UK Aviation ‘Carbon Budget’, subdivided into individual airport level carbon budgets – and for this to be incorporated into the update of the UK Airport National Policy Statement (ANPS) which is set to be reviewed this summer. This would provide clarity to airports on the levels of fossil jet fuel that can be sold at their airport into the future, and would stimulate & accelerate a market for alternative fuels and new low-carbon aircraft technology.
- The economic, social and environmental opportunities to the UK for developing a nascent zero emissions flight network and attracting start-ups in this sector to the UK.
