On 10th June, Safe Landing attended a number of roundtables at the UK Houses of Parliament – aimed at members of parliament (MPs) who were interested in challenging the proposed expansion of Heathrow Government currently under consideration this summer.
These roundtables included a number of Labour and Liberal Democrat MPs, and some peers from the House of Lords.
Our interventions focused on:
- Our proposal for a UK Aviation ‘Carbon Budget’, subdivided into individual airport level carbon budgets – and for this to be incorporated into the update of the UK Airport National Policy Statement (ANPS) which is set to be reviewed this summer. This would provide clarity to airports on the levels of fossil jet fuel that can be sold at their airport into the future, and would stimulate & accelerate a market for alternative fuels and new low-carbon aircraft technology.
- The economic, social and environmental opportunities to the UK for developing an early zero emissions flight network and attracting start-ups in this sector to the UK.
