Farnborough Airport (the UK’s largest private jet airport) is consulting the public via Rushmoor Borough Council on proposals to increase its weekend flights by about 50%.
Safe Landing has responded to the consultation, objecting to the proposal, as:
🛩️ Private jets are the most carbon-intensive form of air travel.
⚠️ They serve a small minority of travellers while creating outsized carbon, noise and air pollution impacts for workers and nearby communities.
⚡ We propose that Farnborough instead becomes a pioneer of low‑carbon aviation – pivoting away from private jets and towards electric, hydrogen and hybrid-powered aircraft.
Such a transition would:
✅ Reduce carbon, air and noise pollution – improving the health of workers and communities.
✅ Improve access to air travel via low-carbon flights that will be more accessible to the general public than high-carbon private flights.
✅ Boost the economy and jobs via clean technology (aircraft, motors, batteries, etc.) development and operation.
