👩✈️ Maxine de Vries and Finlay Asher represented Safe Landing during the NACO (Netherlands Airport Consultants) ‘Sustainable Aviation Summit’, which marked NACO’s 75th anniversary, and delved into the theme of ‘creating cross-sector collaboration’ in the Hague, Netherlands on 24th Oct 2024.
✈️ The event included many airport management consultants, as well as representatives from airports themselves, airlines and trade groups such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and Airports Council International (ACI):
🛫 We co-hosted the workshop on ‘Governmental and Societal Collaboration’ where we simulated a public inquiry of an airport expansion:
👨👩👦👦 Participants did an excellent job when we asked them to put on the hats of not only the airport, but also local residents, local government, and an environmental NGO during the role-play exercise. They decided key priorities for their stakeholder group, before negotiating collaborative positions with other stakeholders.
⚖️ The prioritisation and negotiation stages were really interesting to observe and listen-in as different stakeholder groups moved from positions of opposition towards co-developing positive plans that took into account everybody’s concerns. 🛩️ We were pleased to see how many proposals for ‘zero emissions aircraft’ hub airports came out of the process!
