Watch the “Split” film with us in Sheffield – 22nd March 2026

9 Mar, 2026

Split follows the physical and mental journeys of best friends Tom and James – both environmentalists, both airline pilots and both inexperienced in the Arctic – as they embark and reflect on a remote splitboard expedition in Greenland. With humour and depth, filmmaker and expedition teammate Charlotte follows how each navigates their minds, passions and purpose in a time of crisis.

Charlotte Workman (Director): When I first agreed to join the expedition to Greenland as filmmaker – I thought the film would just be about the trip itself. Upon meeting Tom and James – the protagonists – this entirely changed. Their characters, relationship and story captured me in such a way I felt there was no option but to take the time to make a much deeper, character driven film. The theme of contrast and dichotomy arose in so many aspects of the story, it fitted perfectly with the nature of the expedition itself which was to be the longest splitboard journey in the world. The ‘split’ appears in how Tom and James differ in their personalities, their mindsets and their approaches to living as environmental activists and airline pilots. It particularly resonated with me and I hope it will with others as we all try to navigate our minds, passions and purpose in a time of climate and mental health crisis. Naturally, I seem to tell stories in a humorous way – so despite dealing with what can be heavy topics, my debut film Split provides comedy, thoughtful moments and ultimately hope.

Tom and James are both members of the Safe Landing community, and we are thrilled to follow their journey into the great unknown!

The film will be shown on Sunday 22nd March 2026 on Screen 3 at the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield, as part of the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) – a friendly festival, welcoming everyone whether you’re an outdoors enthusiast or an armchair adventurer who just loves a good story.
