🎙️ Safe Landing appeared on BBC and LBC Radio to discuss Heathrow Airport’s latest expansion proposals – and the rival bid from Arora Group:
🛫 If Heathrow thinks it can expand within the UK’s legally-binding carbon budgets – we’d be interested to see how!
🛍️ The UK Government should set a carbon budget for UK aviation, showing how much fossil jet fuel will be sold in the UK each year, and how that budget will be subdivided between UK airports. This will ensure we deliver our targets. If any airport thinks their expansion plans are commercially possible within that imposed budget – go for it.
⚡ In the meantime, let’s crack-on with pioneering the genuinely sustainable future of flight. Zero-carbon aircraft and hybrid-electric aircraft are our ticket to greener, cleaner and quieter skies.
⚙️ If the UK wants to seize the economic opportunity of the century, it should harness it’s aerospace talents to develop the technology of tomorrow.
📍 It can create a fertile testing ground for start-ups in this space, by transforming existing infrastructure – our proposal is to transition regional and private jet airports around the country into future air mobility hubs.
💡 We think British aviation’s future lies in innovation, not expansion. The UK has a huge economic opportunity to lead, back high-value British manufacturing and create jobs developing sustainable technology for export worldwide. This would see knock-on economic benefits across the country and into other sectors.
👍 We need an industrial strategy that delivers this instead.
❓ What do you think of our response to this?
👨✈️ 👩🔧 We’re always looking for fresh ideas for how we can improve our thinking and communications. If you’re an aviation worker, with a desire to rapidly reduce the climate impact of air travel – join us!
