On 23rd June 2026, Finlay gave a talk to students at the University of Westminster.
Their “Centre for Air Traffic Management (ATM) Research” has created the Transportation Research Lab (https://blog.westminster.ac.uk/trl/), which aims to bring together students from different disciplines (mainly computer science).
Finlay presented for 1 and a half hours, including a Q&A at the end – covering our personal journeys from aviation workers into growing a global sustainability community for our industry, the proposals of Safe Landing, our assessment of the challenges with the current aviation industry sustainability strategy – including the UK Jet Zero Strategy, and what we think is required to get aviation onto a climate compatible flightpath.
We had lots of good questions throughout and a detailed Q&A afterwards where we got into in-depth conversations with the students, who seem to have taken a lot away from the session.
Earlier talks included presentations from Professor Paul Williams from the University of Reading who gave a lecture on the impact of climate change on aviation (turbulence, jet stream and route trajectory considerations) and from Guy Gratton, Professor of Aircraft Test and Evaluation at Cranfield University.
