Members of Safe Landing attended and supported the picket line for Unite the Union Heathrow airport security workers on strike this month for a decent pay rise. For more about the strike see here. Over years Heathrow Airport Ltd have whittled away workers’ terms and conditions while making huge profits. The workers are fighting to recoup some of massive losses.
Finlay and Sacha attended and had some good conversations, including an invite to speak at the London & South East ‘Civil Air Transport’ Regional Industrial Sector Conference (RISC) in June.
We went to support the strike, learn about the issues and express solidarity from other aviation workers in Safe Landing. We also had some interesting discussions about the organisation and the future of aviation. From workers’ rights to decent, long-term sustainable employment to the climate emergency, aviation bosses cannot be trusted with the future of the sector. Aviation workers’ voice needs to be heard. Another reason why struggles like this are so important.
There will be further pickets on the 25th, 26th & 27th May – please support them. They are located at Nene Road roundabout, TW6 2AU, from 8am to 4pm. Please let us know if you fancy supporting digitally or physically by attending the picket.
