Unfortunately our members are seeing some within the industry trying to muddy the waters about contrails (“we need more tests”. “there’s a lot of uncertainty” etc etc). What is certain is that contrails do have a significant effect on global heating and that could be reduced today. Expert worker’s from inside the industry need to have their voices heard.
The more expert voices we have from within the industry raising this as an issue the better. If work on contrails is something you’d like to be involved with then please contact us – [email protected] We have some members working on this issue already – but we need all the help we can get. Whether you’re working in air traffic, flight crew, an engineer, or other interested worker, the debate needs your help – because much more can be done to fix this problem.
We’ve been working on a motion at Safe Landing to clean up jet fuel. Doing so would not only improve air quality at airports, but also reduce the amount of contrails formed during flight. To learn about the motion – and then take it to your union, click here.
The heating effect of contrails could be responsible for up to two-thirds of aviation’s total global heating impact. To see a quick explainer of the full impact see this video from Safe Landing co-founder, Finlay – or a longer, full conference run by Transport and Environment.
To learn more about the issue in-depth you can visit one of Safe Landing’s close colleagues websites, Blue Lines.
Support from our growing group of members is crucial to everything we do. From signing petitions & sharing campaigns, to amplifying our messages as widely as possible – there’s something everyone can do!
With our monthly newsletter and regular blog posts we’ve got all the issues covered – broken down into easy to understand chunks. (And highly shareable with your own groups!)
Through our regular online meetings, group channels and special events
We have members from across the world, united by their passion for aviation and protecting our planet. Some are active campaigners, but plenty like to watch from afar and just keep up to date through our newsletter and social media. However much you want (or don’t want) to get involved you are most welcome to join us.
